Psyché
Two-synced channel video installation
A 25m tunnel, made of aluminum and reflective stainless steel, is separated into two paths, one for women and the other for men. The inside walls of the tunnel have a reflective surface and the dark path is lit only by a motion-sensor. Active speakers diffuse a low-volume narration of the play Psyché by French playwright Molière. The male character L’Amour narrates on the men’s side, and the female character Psyché speaks on the women’s path. The paths end in one space, with two large-scale video projections facing each other on either side of the room, the characters from the play appear as animations. The characters are crawling on all fours; each with a plastic replica of the genitalia of the opposite sex dangling in front of them, like the proverbial carrot, attached to the character’s waist. The animated characters repeat lines from the play, and are oblivious of the other character’s presence. The work is an exploration about love and sexuality.
