Jihad
One channel video installation
It is a familiar scene, covered far too often in the news about the Iraq war: the videotaped message of the Islamist “terrorist”, face covered and Kalashnikov in hand, reciting a message of hate and death from the Koran. In my version of the “last” message, the cowboy “terrorist” stands in front of a wall painted with the Stars and Stripes. He starts by reciting a verse from the Koran, and then picks up an acoustic guitar and sings, “This Land is my Land”.
Song lyrics:
This land is your land,
This land is my land,
From California,
To the New York Island,
From the Redwood forest,
To the Gulf Stream waters,
This land was made for you and me.
As I was walking
A ribbon of highway,
I saw above me
An endless skyway,
I saw below me,
A golden valley.
This land was made for you and me.
I've roamed and rambled
And I've followed my footsteps,
To the sparkling sands
Of her diamond deserts,
And all around me
A voice was sounding,
This land was made for you and me.
The sun comes shining
As I was strolling, The wheat fields waving
And the dust clouds rolling,
The fog was lifting A voice come chanting,
This land was made for you and me.
This land is your land. This land is my land
From California,
To the New York Island,
From the Redwood forest,
To the Gulf Stream waters,
This land was made for you and me.
